MGM Resorts International and its prominent online gaming division, BetMGM, have significantly ramped up their dedication to responsible gambling, unveiling an expanded financial commitment surpassing $1 million. This substantial pledge, announced during the customary Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) in March, is designed to advance research, foster community partnerships, enhance employee engagement, and elevate public awareness concerning player protection.

A core component of this investment includes a joint contribution of $450,000 to the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG). This funding is specifically allocated to drive critical research aimed at a deeper understanding of how gambling-related harm develops and its subsequent impact on player behavior, with a particular focus on the expanding sports betting landscape.

Stephen Martino, Chief Compliance Officer and Senior Vice President at MGM Resorts, emphasized the strategic importance of data-driven insights. He remarked, "As sports betting continues to grow, so must our understanding of its impact on our guests and customers. Investing in high-quality research allows us to be guided by valuable data and insights, which will ultimately help us support our patrons, communities, and industry."

Beyond direct research, MGM Resorts and BetMGM are also committing over $850,000 to various national and state organizations throughout 2026. These contributions are intended to support entities actively engaged in preventing and treating problem gambling, as well as those developing robust consumer protection safeguards.

Operational enhancements are also a key part of this expanded commitment. Both companies are intensifying responsible gambling messaging across their vast network of physical properties and digital platforms. This heightened communication effort is further strengthened by the integration of the GameSense program, a comprehensive initiative developed and licensed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC). GameSense plays a crucial role in delivering appropriate responsible gaming messages to players and equips company employees with the skills to identify potential gambling-related harm and facilitate early intervention.

Rhea Loney, BetMGM’s Chief Compliance Officer, reiterated the year-round nature of their player protection efforts. She stated, "Problem Gambling Awareness Month is an important reminder of our year-round responsibility to assist and empower our players. We prioritize player protection by investing in education, tools, collaboration, and meaningful support resources.
