Jeff Platt: From Sports Desk to Poker's Grandest Stages, An Industry Shift

A well-known personality within the global poker community, Jeff Platt has recently made a pivotal career move, stepping into an expanded role as an employee of the World Series of Poker (WSOP). This transition follows a distinguished period at PokerGO, where Platt became synonymous with high-energy tournament coverage.

Born on June 4, 1986, in Dallas, Texas, Jeffrey Platt initially honed his journalistic skills in traditional sports. After graduating with a broadcast journalism degree from the University of Southern California, his early career included stints as a reporter and sports anchor for CBS affiliate WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi. He then joined ESPN in Dallas, covering the Mavericks, before moving to Spectrum News San Antonio to report on the Spurs.

Platt pivoted to poker coverage in 2018, marking a significant turning point. That September, he made his debut on "Friday Night Poker" for PokerGO, providing play-by-play analysis alongside Brent Hanks. His influence expanded in 2019 with "The Big Blind," his inaugural show on PokerGO, which featured notable poker figures such as Chris Moneymaker, Alex Jacob, and Norman Chad. However, in late January, Platt announced his departure from PokerGO via a statement on X, expressing gratitude for the opportunities. Concurrently, he confirmed his immediate start as an employee of the WSOP, stating his belief in the brand's vision and his enthusiasm for helping to build it in a new capacity as both a host and producer. He notably anticipates contributing to the 2026 World Series of Poker.

Beyond his media contributions, Platt is an active professional poker player. According to The Hendon Mob, his live tournament winnings are estimated at $894,630 across more than 140 events. His most significant cash came in 2021, securing $160,662 for a fourth-place finish in the $1,000 No Limit Hold'em - Double Stack (Event #43) at the 52nd WSOP in Las Vegas. He also clinched a victory and $100,804 in the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em - MSPT Event (Event #9) at the DeepStack Extravaganza III in Las Vegas.

In his personal life, Platt announced his engagement to Tatyana Lynn in late October 2024 via Instagram. The 39-year-old broadcaster's net worth, though not publicly confirmed, is derived from a diverse portfolio including his professional poker earnings and extensive media engagements. It is important to note that he is not affiliated with the CEO of Sky Zone Franchise Group, who shares the same name, Jeff Platt.
